Training Course for
Door Supervisors

The Door Supervisor Top-Up course is a two-day training program that provides door supervisors with essential skills and knowledge required to perform their roles effectively and safely in the private security industry. The course covers the principles of terror threat awareness, using equipment as a door supervisor, and the application of physical intervention skills.

To be eligible for the course, candidates must be aged 18 and over and have sufficient reading, writing, speaking, and listening language skills to communicate clearly and effectively.

It is an SIA requirement that each learner is sufficiently qualified in First Aid. This course includes an Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification, which meets this requirement.

The course is assessed through a combination of multiple-choice examinations, practical assessments, and Q/A sessions to cover critical areas of PI knowledge. Each unit has a pass mark, and successful completion of all units is required to obtain the qualification.

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive a Highfield Award for Door Supervisors in the Private Security Industry (Top-Up). The qualification is awarded by Highfield Qualifications and sits on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF). This qualification is supported by the Security Industry Authority (SIA), which regulates the private security industry.

Upon obtaining the door supervisor license, candidates can work in various places such as pubs, clubs, football matches, events, retail outlets, construction sites, and many more. Door supervisors typically wear uniforms and can expect to earn around £10 to £15 per hour, depending on the place of work.

The Door Supervisor Top-Up qualification is valid for three years. After this period, candidates will need to undertake a refresher course and pass the necessary assessments to renew their SIA Door Supervisor License.
